Support to Ian Smith at the Cobblestone Bar in Smithfield, Dublin on Thursday 31st May.
This is a gig I'm truly looking forward to. I met Ian on my first IMRO Songwriters Retreat in Donegal in 2006 and was blown away by his guitar playing. He sang a song which he co-wrote with Enda Cullen (Keadue Strand) which stopped me in my tracks - and which I went away straight away to learn and include whenever I can in our live set. If you can make it along on this night I promise you won't be sorry.

Support to The Hanna Sisters at the Moat Theatre, Naas on Friday 23rd March 2007.
Solo gig this time, Angela being in the USofA with hubby Jer. Turned into a great night. The Hannah sisters (Mary, Nuala and Breige) are some act : multi instrumentalists and smooth harmonies - it was an absolute pleasure to get this support slot. They've also invited me to do a possible one or two more so watch this space.

A Cork invasion of Kildare is on the cards. I can't believe we've managed to get these three all together but what a treat this is going to be. JOHN SPILLANE headlines this gig on the Sunday 5th November. John's debut solo album 'The Wells of the World' 1997' was described by Hot Press's Oliver Sweeney as...' not only a striking and individual musical statement, but one of the albums of this or any other year' His latest album 'Hey Dreamer' went straigh to Number 4 in the Irish album charts. JOHN HAS ALSO WON THE PRESTIGIOUS METEOR IRELAND MUSIC AWARD IN 2003 & 2006 IN THE BEST FOLK/TRADITIONAL ACT CATEGORY.

October 2006

This is the month where we have the second gig in the MOAT SONGWRITER SERIES. The date for this one is Wednesday 25th October and the line-up is once again a special one.
The Headline Act this time around is MIKE HANRAHAN (Stocktons Wing) and LESLIE DOWDALL(In Tua Nua) who have been co-writing some new material together and are now bringing it on tour. I don't doubt but there will be some gems from each of their formidable back catalogue as well. Special guests on the night will be led by SULI, the O'Suileabhann brothers Eoin and Moley - and this is a musical treat to savour!
Our support slot in the Moat Theatre with Niall Tobin seemed to have been well received. We've been asked to repeat the performance this time in the new Mill Theatre, Dundrum on this Friday 6th October. A nice suprise to be asked. And we're really looking forward to it.

September 2006

It's been a busy few months what with working with the Moat Theatre to set up a new SONGWRITER SERIES over the next few months (September, October and November). With a lot of help and encouragement from Kathleen and Marion at the Moat we have put together a series of gigs that hopefully will whet everybody's appetite for more in the new year! See above for details of opening gig in the series. There is a dedicated page also set up to give you a little more information on this new venture, the opening gig of which took placeon the 25th of this month with MICK HANLY headlining and MICHELE ANN KELLY with MYSELF supporting.
I'm also delighted to report that myself and Angela have landed a support slot with NIALL TOBIN in his upcoming show in the Moat Theatre on the 30th September next.

June 2006

Having supported the Dublin Gospel Choir for 2 performances in the Moat Theatre, Naas we have been invited back to do a showcase gig on the 8th June. This promises to be a special night. The theatre will be converted into a candlelit cafe with tables and chairs in close proximity to and on the same level as the stage. The gig itself will be presented in three distinct sections.
First up will be Aisling Quinn. I met Aisling on an IMRO Songwriters Retreat in Rossnowlagh, Co Donegal earlier this year. Her description of the process of songwriting was, to say the least, arresting! Aisling subsequently did a set as part of the Boom Boom Rooms Friday presentation in Dublin and her performance had everybody there ready to wrap her up and bring her home with them. This part of the show I'm looking forward to myself!
What has been written to date about Aisling:-
“Aisling Quinn has a delicious voice... She knows how to marry attractive melodies with intelligent lyrics to create songs of real substance” - Jackie Hayden (Hotpress Sept 04)
Galway singer/songwriter Aisling Quinn stepped onto Dublin music scene in 2003, playing such venues as The Sugar Club and Vicar Street. In 2004 she released a three track demo which was chosen by Jackie Hayden of Hotpress as his “Demo of the Forthnight”. After taking a years break, Aisling returned in December 2005 to win the Christmas “Battle of the Axe” Competition in the Haypenny Bridge Inn. 2006 sees her going back to the studio to start work on her debut album.
The second section will follow hot on the heels of Aislings set and will mainly comprise both Angela and myself with some additional musical backing from Carl on Keyboards.
The third section of the performance will be presented with a full band. The band members are Carl Banks on Keyboards, Dave McGann on Bass and Paul McAllister on Drums.

Supporting Marion Bradfield! In the Cobblestone, Smithfield. A pleasure from start to finish - even if I did get a crash course in sound engineering!
Thanks Marion. I had a ball!

Well, the Grand Final has come and gone... and Race to the Moon managed to take THIRD PRIZE on the night. We are dead chuffed! Our thanks to the judges who had some very nice things to say about the song and our performance on the night and especially to Mike and his team for a very enjoyable night of music, with an open mic session in Gleesons pub to top it all off! Oh...and thanks to Verona for tea and toast in the wee small hours ....(very rock'n roll!!)

Song 'Race to the Moon' chosen as one of ten finalists in Clonmel National Song Contest 2005. Final to be held in the White Memorial Theatre, Clonmel on Friday 4th November.
Finalists to be interviewed on TippFM Arts Programme broadcast each Tuesday evening in the weeks running up to Final. Maybe now I'll get those tea and scones Verona has been promising me for the last year! What do you think of my chances Angela?
